Deloitte Consulting is part of a multinational professional IT services company. Deloitte tells clients that their goal is to help “imagine, deliver, and run your future, wherever you compete, using the latest technologies, from strategy development through implementation”. This is done by providing advisory solutions, legal consultation, and providing financial insight. Deloitte is a company that is willing to tackle some of the hardest financial cases by helping clients make risk-informed decisions, guide them on how to deal with business disruptions, and act as advisors during disputes.
Deloitte was founded in the U.S. in 1893, beginning with two accountants; Charles Haskins and Elijah Watt Sells. After solving a minor economic crisis and helping to revolutionize how the American government does business, Haskins and Sells opened a few offices in New York that provided accounting services before reaching success and moving onto opening even more facilities in Chicago. Before the Stock Market Crash of 1929, Haskins called for independent audits in order to prevent such major bankruptcies, which unfortunately fell on deaf ears. Post-Second World War, Deloitte and other similar firms enjoyed the economic prosperity boom, but also jumped onto the information technologies that began to bloom. In 1989, Deloitte finally closed a merger deal with Touche & Ross, a Scottish founded firm that had been a competitor for decades, led by J. Michael Cook and Edward A. Kangas. Since the early 2000s, Deloitte has changed how it operated by splitting itself into four subsidiaries: Deloitte & Touche LLP, Deloitte Consulting LLP, Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP and Deloitte Tax LLP.
Deloitte’s most popular occupations among foreign workers are Solution Specialist, Specialist Master, Project Delivery Specialist, and Budget Analyst. When it comes to the Solution Specialist position, Deloitte is looking for experienced and passionate professionals in technology, with the capacity to be flexible and innovative within the job. Requirements for this job would call for a Bachelor’s in science in computer science, software engineering, management information systems as well as experience in system testing and writing automation test scripts. The last two responsibilities for this job are among the duties a Deloitte Solution Specialist will perform along with converting business requirements and processes into software data so that solutions can be found. Other additional duties would include developing test strategies, logging system defects, and leading teams to finding gaps within business requirements. The median Solution Specialist salary is around $80K.
Requirements for the Specialist Master position includes deep expert knowledge of a particular subject field, eight years of consulting experience, a degree in computer science, information systems, or other technology-related field, and four full life-cycle sales force implementations with the Cloud. Specialist Masters will consult clients on the integration of the architecture of their service systems. They are also responsible for sales pursuits, oral presentations of proposals, and maintain relationships with stakeholders. The salary range of this job position is around $50K to $175K.
Like the previous job positions, Project Delivery Specialist should have college-level familiarity with computer science along with over six years of experience in HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, and Angular or React. The job itself would call for creating strategies for intended business goals, working with cross-divisional teams, monitor project team day-to-day operations, and coordinate project schedules, assignments and work flows. The average range for Project Delivery Specialists range from $47K to about $125K.
Finally, Budget Analysts are employees that develop a budget with project managers, possessing the authority to approve and reject any proposal or requests that are put forward. Outside of company projects, Budget Analysts draw up estimates in an effort to predict the financial future of the company. Their last chief task is to also monitor where the money goes. This assignment calls for a Bachelor’s degree in and a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in accounting or finance. Typical Budget Analyst salary range is around $42K to almost $92K.
Like all professional IT service corporations, Deloitte launches several projects for customers as well as for the sake of improving their own networks. While the Solution Specialists take business data and turn it into viable strategies, Project Delivery Specialists direct project teams as well as offering support in the strategizing when needed. Budget Analysts also play a heavy hand in the execution of major projects, ensuring that they do not exceed the predetermined budget. With these multiple types of employees working in tandem, Deloitte can ensure that their projects are handled from all angles, whether it's within creation or financing.
Specialist Masters may also assist when it comes to the project designing and business strategizing, they would also act as a necessary go-between for Deloitte and clients. In order to ensure that the project fulfills the client requirements, a company should have someone within this position who can effectively negotiate their desires to the project team and be familiar with the process. By having this position create a bridge between client and corporation, the project’s outcome would most likely be the desired one.
As recently as February of this year, Bloomberg Law put out an article on Deloitte Consulting LLP labeling the company as the top participant of H1B hiring. Bloomberg reports that Deloitte approved 57,259 H-1B visa worker applications almost twice the amount of hires at Qualcomm Incorporated (29,623 visas). However, this high amount of foreign hires does not stop at Deloitte as the company also has the habit of contracting foreign workers outside to other firms like Cognizant and Infosys, who also have amounts of H1B hires.
This has invited ire and criticism from the Trump administration, who sights companies such as Deloitte as being a thorn in the American workforce. In retaliation to the Trump administration's criticisms and regulations concerning H1B, Klasko Immigration Law Partners attorney William Stock claims that hiring qualified American workers would force “the price for those U.S. workers is going to be higher”.
