Cognizant Technology Solutions Us Corp Additional Information

Cognizant Technology Solutions is a multinational IT corporation that provides consultation in the realm of digital and technological operations. For the past twelve years, Cognizant Technology Solutions has ranked among Fortune’s Top 500 Most Admired Companies. Cognizant is split between three subsidiaries; Business, Operations, and Systems/Technology. The Business end of Cognizant takes a look at clients business models, products, and past customer experiences in order to develop new and better approaches. This is done via AI that learns to compile data and detect bank fraud.

Cognizant’s Operations division reimagines and creates new digital processes based on a client’s previous strategies in order to “close the gap” between customers, suppliers and partners. This is done via software robots to process every claim in an effort to grow businesses without adding more onto the front of manual labor. Finally, Cognizant’s Systems and Technology division helps clients by updating their digital infrastructure to make it more modern and efficient. Over the years, Cognizant has developed strong partnerships with such recognizable companies and corporations such as Adobe, Cisco, CyberArk, Dell Technologies, Google Cloud, and Microsoft. Currently, the Cognizant Technology Solutions Board of Members include the likes of Zein Abdalla (Former President of PepsiCo), Maureen Breakiron-Evans (Former CFO of Towers Perrin), and John M. Dineen (Former President and CEO of GE Healthcare).

As of 2019, Cognizant Technology Solutions employee number has reached 292,500, with 44,307 of those employees coming off of Cognizant’s H1B program over the past fiscal year. Cognizant offers the opportunity to pursue careers in consulting, IT infrastructure, and sales/marketing, whether they are interning college students to foreign workers seeking executive positions within the company. The highest salaried jobs in Cognizant for H1B workers include Senior Manager JC45-Management Analyst, Associate Director JC40, Manager JC50-Software Dev Applications, with total yearly salaries ranging from $113,000 to $133,000.

Senior Management Analysts are seen as being responsible for the development and delivery processes of technological solutions. This job combines the duties of project managers, reporting, and business analysis. Such responsibilities include imagining the scope of a project and reworking it if need be. Other duties include gathering the necessary resources for the workshop, turning the data into insightful strategies, and utilizing WFM (Work Management) software to optimize working schedules. To get to the Senior Management Analyst position in Cognizant, workers are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in business, 5 to 7 years of field management experience, and familiarity with Microsoft Office. More personal skills Cognizant wants from future Senior Management Analysts is for them to have good communication skills and adaptability. As for what the JC45 is, it is one of many technology lines developed by JEDEC that include products like DRAM modules, cards, and socket interfaces.

Associate Directors are often responsible for supervision and training of staff. Associate directors mainly have to maintain software databases, dispersing technical advice, and evaluating the development and design of projects. Required education for Associate Directors is to have a Master’s degree within the chosen field, whether concerning business or information technologies. Managers of Software Dev Applications would lead the software development teams on whatever project Cognizant is launching. In this case it would be the creation of applications for software that run on JC50 technologies. Other duties would most likely include participating in the overall design and the hiring and managing of staff on the team. Like most tech jobs, a Bachelor’s degree in computer science is required and employers for this position will often ask if applicants have experience in Java or Unix.

Cognizant is a technology solutions company and would naturally seek to develop new innovative technologies to improve the livelihoods of their customers. This is why Associate Directors pool in together the proper workers and resources for the development of a desired product. Cognizant works closely with JEDEC, mostly in working with their products to realize Cognizant’s network goals.

Cognizant also has developments on the digital front. The company is well known for producing software platforms alongside what physical technological products they develop with JEDEC. However, their platforms are not only utilized for flourishing businesses, insurance firms and banking, but their platforms and products are also used in the realms of healthcare, manufacturing, and travel.

Over the years, Cognizant Technology Solutions has faced a multitude of controversies involving H1B workers. Back in 2009, Cognizant ended up paying over $509,000 after an investigation was made by the U.S. Department of Labor, stating that the company failed to pay proper wages to H1B tech workers as well as “failed to offer all H-1B workers equal benefits or eligibility for equal benefits, and failed to maintain required records”. Later in 2011, eighteen IT workers in California filed a lawsuit against Cognizant Technology Solutions, proclaiming that the company replaced them with H1B workers from India, violating the state's anti-discrimination laws.

The lawsuit stated that non-Indian workers were barred from major decision-making processes “for the purpose of putting them at a disadvantage to the employees of Indian descent. An accompanying charge also stated that the IT management team primarily focused on Indian nationals, going so far as to “actively discourage(d) U.S. workers from celebrating U.S. holidays and traditions, such as Christmas, the Fourth of July and Thanksgiving, by assigning mandatory work that, in order to be timely completely, required work during holidays traditionally celebrated in America”. In response to the lawsuit, Cognizant stated that their “view that this lawsuit is without merit, and we will vigorously contest it and pursue all legal remedies that may be available to us.“
